- a main house production
Written by John Godber
Directed by Jane Stolworthy
Warm, sometimes a little sad but mostly very, very funny, Happy Families follows the boisterous fortunes of one ordinary Northern family through years of change in the sixties and seventies. These are iron-fisted men and house-proud women with their roots firmly in the close community of terraced streets. Now son John’s got into college. It won’t be easy - not for John, not for any of them. But there’s such pride! Happy Families is a semi-autobiographical play from Wakefield-born John Godber – ex-rugby player, ex-teacher and one of the most popular playwrights in the world, with plays like Teechers and Bouncers.
