by Claire Dowie
directed by Emma Nicholson

The Caxton Youth Theatre have just been awarded a grant from the Arts Council England to put on their production of 'Adult Child / Dead Child' by Claire Dowie.

Despite the controversial title, 'Adult Child / Dead Child' is a very moving and often funny play, it tells the story of a young woman’s fight against mental illness, her relationship with an imaginary friend she creates at the age of 5 and how she conquers her emotions and gains control of her life. The whole production contains a mixture of monologue and poetry.

Two young actresses will take on this challenging piece, which has been granted £3000 from Arts Council England.  Kaite Coulthwaite and Gemma Clark are delighted with the award, both members of the youth theatre senior drama group held on a Wednesday night, they have gained a lot of experience with the youth theatre over the past few years.  Katie (15) has taken on many roles in nearly every youth production since before last summer and Gemma (17) is a member of the prestigious National Youth Theatre.

There will also be a performance on Tues 19th April for the youth service, which will be followed by a chat back with the actresses.

Emma Nicholson is directing the piece, assisted by Scott Middleton (both of Fusion Theatre & Arts Productions Ltd). They would like to thank David Power and the Councils Arts Development Unit for assisting with the funding.
