It's A Dolls Life

After Anne and Susie get word that their owner, Sally, is cleaning out her nursery they join forces to escape the world of neglect and depression.

The Caxton Youth Theatre first performed this piece at Lindsey School at a showcase some years ago, since it had never been performed at our theatre we thought it would be a nice idea to let two other youth members bring it to our own stage.

Cast:
Chris Nicholl, Katie Coulthwaite

A Talk In The Park

A Talk in the Park is a rather inconsequential story about brief encounters. A series of entertaining and perceptive portraits depicting social manners and relationships.

An interesting play to add to the other one acts directed by Steph. Four characters in a park who are eager to share their own problems but not interested in listening to what others have to say.

Cast:
Daniel McCallum, Holly Keeble, Steph Wood, Tim Henson, Carl Stanley

A Coupla Bimbos Sittin' Around Talkin'

Linda, B.B. and Nancy are sunning themselves in their backyard in Essex waiting for their boyfriends to take them away for a four-day holiday. They're going to fix up a fourth male with Nancy's cousin, Tess, a conservative "college girl." When Tess arrives, she's repulsed by the Barbie doll hairdos and tight outfits the girls are wearing. However, Tess is given a lesson when she finds out that the three girls are anything but ill-informed. As the stunned Tess is transformed by Linda, B.B. and Nancy into their look-alike, she listens to them debate the Hundred Years War, the poll tax, the Franco-Prussian War, the Battle of Waterloo and Napoleon—their usual conversation when they're away from their insecure men! Tess gains immeasurable respect for the three girls and hopes that she doesn't come off too dumb, since she doesn't know who won the Franco-Prussian War. But more important, she stops making judgments based on superficial evidence.

Cast:
Olivia Kersey, Gemma Quickfall, Amie Lovesey, Kerry Tacey

Write up:

A Trilogy of plays is on the bill at a Grimsby theatre next week. Eleven members of the Caxton Youth Theatre will perform three one-act plays next Friday and Saturday at the Cleethorpe Road venue. The starter is a brief comedy entitled It's a Dolls Life, by C Clark. This is a story of a little girl's toys coming to life, but is not related to the famous Buzz Lightyear films. Chris Nichol, a rising star of the stage and regular performer at Lindsey Arts College, will star opposite Katie Culthwaite. The second show features five more youth performers in A Talk in the Park, by Alan Ayckbourn. This shows several different characters, each needing a shoulder to cry on, but they are so self-absorbed with their own problems, that they don't actually listen to each other. The final performance is A Couple Of Bimbos Sitting Around Talking, By Richard Vetere. A group of four young girls seem, at face value, to be only interested in magazines, TV, and boys, but is there more to this than meets the eye? The plays are being directed by Steph Fitzgerald, in her debut at the theatre, and the productions are sponsored by the Millennium Volunteers. The performances begin at 8pm in the Novartis suite and all profits go to the Caxton Theatre's disabled access fund.
