Saturday Group (10.00am - 12.30pm) (Ages 11+)
During the Saturday workshops, members learn all about theatre. They work on their acting skills through exercises, improvisations and script work. They learn how to look at a piece of drama and give constructive criticism that provokes discussion amongst the group, they also learn how to take criticism and respect other peoples ideas and opinions. Members will also work on specific techniques during certain sessions, including mask work, physical theatre, mime etc and explore different ways of performing to an audience. The group has a maximum membership of 30 individuals, so if applications are made, there may be a long waiting period for a space in this highly popular group. Studio Group (7.30pm - 9.30pm) (Ages 14+) This group has been re-formed to suit older and more experienced youngsters, usually the ones who aim to work in theatre professionally, although many members enjoy it only as a hobby. This group has only 15 places available enabling leaders to work more closely with members. The group aims to produce pieces of theatre as a team working both onstage, backstage and on technical. There will be a waiting list available for anyone who would like to put their name forward for the group; unfortunately we can only let people in as others leave. Volunteers run the youth theatre, all of whom work or have worked in professional theatre in one way or another. All youth theatre sessions take place in the Burnetts building next door to the Caxton Theatre. The entrance is at the back along Strand Street and there is a big sign above the silver door which says 'Home of the Caxton Youth Theatre'. If the door is not open, please ring the bell. Will all parents and guardians please be aware that from January 2004 onwards, they will only be allowed in the corridor when dropping off and picking up youth members. This is to avoid disruption to the workshops in progress as it often distracts youth members. It will also allow privacy to the leaders in the Green Room who may be discussing future projects or casting of productions confidentially.
