"The Odd Couple" sees David Peasgood take to his directorial stand again this year. After last year's "Misery" and "Out of Order", he now takes on Neil Simon.
Many will recall the hilarious fun and games of television's original odd couple of Felix Unger and Oscar Maddison. These two very opposite characters, one scruffy and one houseproud, somehow managed to survive in the confines of a shared flat in New York, despite driving each other to distraction.
The female version of the story is pretty similar. Written as a 1980's update, author Neil Simon has transformed Felix into Florence Unger and Oscar into Olve Madison.
The recently divorced and very messy Olive, the producer of a prime time television news show, invites the suddenly single and compulsively neat Florence to move in with her. Hilarity ensues as Florence and Olive are quite possibly the most mismatched pair ever to live under one roof.
Where the men played poker, the ladies have a weekly Trivial Pursuit game going, which brings in an added assortment of brilliant characters.
The Odd Couple is a very light and funny way to while away a couple of hours. It's light, fluffy, fun and full of giggles and isn't that what a good night out is all about?
