The Caxton Youth Theatre meets Saturday mornings from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
in Burnett’s rehearsal rooms (adjacent to the theatre) in Strand Street, Grimsby. We cater for youngsters aged from 11 to 18 who are looking to either develop their stage skills or try something new.
Being a member is a very rewarding pastime. It is not just about creating actors or learning the technical theatre skills of lighting, sound and set building but it is quite often just about gaining self confidence and social skills to help you develop as a young person.
There are no weekly fees but members are expected to join the society, which costs just £15.00 per year.
In March 2009 all Youth Theatre members took part in “Kes” for three nights as a main house production to critical acclaim. Senior members performed “Teechers” in September 2009 and most Youth Theatre members were involved in the production of “Mort” in December 2009.
In 2010 the Youth Theatre produced “A Night at the Musicals”, “2000 and Oz”, written and directed by one of the senior members, and their December production on the main stage, the pantomime, “Cinderella”.
In 2011 the Youth Theatre produced “March Madness”, a selection of songs and sketches based on improvisations on which they had worked on a Saturday morning. At the time of going to press they are rehearsing for a similar event in December 2011.
Due to demand there is often a waiting list for places and it is now normal practice for those wanting to join to have to audition first. If you are interested in joining please e-mail caxton.theatre@ntlworld.com with your details.
